The City in Darkness

Fey Ancestry

Here’s another quick and easy encounter, designed to make a player feel good because an oft-forgotten ability got them out of a scrape. I introduced this idea more fully in the last post, but in short, I plan to make a bunch of these. They haven’t been playtested yet, so if you use one, let me know how it goes!

The willow dryad’s demand

Target Ability: The Elf Fey Ancestry racial ability.

Ability Summary: Advantage to end the Charmed condition.

Description: An ancient willow tree by the side of the path marks the stream you’ve been seeking this day. Before you can quench your thirst though, the gnarls of the tree twist and expand, forming a door which promptly opens.

A creature, its skin twisted as much as the willow it emerges from appears through the door. It smiles evilly.

”Welcome to my realm. By coming to this place you must offer a sacrifice. Except for you my child (referring the the PC with Fey Ancestry), welcome home”.

The fey demands the sacrifice of a magic item of any rarity. Alternatively the PCs could run, fight(use the Dryad stats from the Monster Manual for an easy fight) or try to talk their way out of it. In any of those cases though, the fey is friendly to the fey ancestry PC, considering them a grandchild.

I’ll attempt to write a bunch more of these, so stay tuned.
